Diviny Releases Statement On East Lewis Avenue Proposal

Diviny Releases Statement Regarding East Lewis Avenue Proposal

Pearl River, NY - Orangetown Councilman Tom Diviny released a statement regarding the East Lewis Avenue proposal.

"Please be advised that I am aware of the concerns of residents regarding a proposal to bring a strip mall/fast food restaurant to the corner of East Lewis Avenue in Pearl River. While the owner can apply to the Town Board for a zone change or special use permit to allow these suggested uses, I cannot support any such project as it does not fit in with the character of the neighborhood," said Councilman Diviny.

Councilman Diviny also noted that there is no application before the Town Board or any of the Land Use Boards concerning such development and the property lies within the CO zone. The CO zone does not allow the uses being suggested for this property.

"Based on the zoning and character of that neighborhood, the problems with left hand turns onto Middletown, and that Goldstein Properties has not engaged the Town or the community at large in its grand plan for this area, it is clear to me that this project is not the right fit for Pearl River," added Councilman Diviny.
